Dear Jennie, I'm so glad you had the opportunity of seeing your Mum and Dad well settled in Camberwell, and that you have confidence in his assurance of where he was going. So good too that your siblings could all say their goodbyes. I have probably told you that when my Mum had a severe stroke and died after 6 days in Frank Boreham hospital in Canterbury, it helped me greatly that she had said in the last week before I had returned to Burkina - that we had talked about the fact that I would not see her again here, and she had even said 'it would be silly to come home for her funeral. As it was, I didn't hear about her passing until (I think it was 10 days) after the event. May you continue to know that peace which passes all understanding. With love, Elspeth Dear Jennie, What wonderful tributes to your Dad. I have watched the whole service, and recognised the significance of the song that you were singing as the coffin was wheeled out. May the Lord bless and encourage you. With love from Elspeth Slater (a retired SIM misso – she represented SIM Victoria at my first commissioning in Hamilton 1989.)

This message comes from the church family at Maleny Uniting Church. We send our sincere condolences at the passing of Ian. There are still many here who have fond memories of both yourself and Ian. We recall his love for the Lord, his faithfulness in worship, his strong singing voice, and his genuine interest in people of all walks of life. We will miss him as a brother in Christ. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. May God’s comforting spirit surround you all. Murray Robertson On behalf of the church family. Hi Jennie thanks for your heartfelt message. We heard yesterday at Connect group from Mavis Benn. We both have very fond memories of Ian when we came to Maleny. He was always very affirming of Murray's preaching. And we enjoyed many social contacts with both Anne and Ian. His faithful Christian life was a model for all to follow. He will live on for us in so many ways. Always interested in others, never pushy, ready to contribute, loved a laugh. "May the Lord watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from the other." God bless you at this time of sadness. Dear Jennie, We were saddened to receive the message that your Dad had passed away, (even though we knew his earthly journey was drawing to a close) Fiona rang and I also spoke to your Mum for a few minutes too and our loving thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for your message which expressed your Dad’s faith so beautifully. A few days ago I was going through some papers and came across your Dad’s journal of their Oriana Choir Overseas trip in 2012 – at the end of the journal your Dad spoke of the limitations of his Parkinson’s disease, but, at the same time, cheerfully coped with these issues. We have fond memories of our friendship with your Dad and our lives have certainly been enriched by his wisdom and many a laugh shared with his witticisms. We are especially thinking of you Jennie, as you grieve the loss of your Dad from so far away, John and I send our Love and Blessings to you and your family, Mavis Benn

Dear Jennie and family Our deepest condolences to the family. Seng and I are upset to hear this sad news about Ian. My mind flashes back to those earlier years when we were in the same Cell Group where we had robust, fulfilling spiritual teachings and discussions. Your Dad’s sharp wit, humour and warm friendship ( and bear hugs) will always be treasured by us. God has set your Dad free from pain as he is now in his Heavenly home with Jesus. After our trip to France in June, Seng was diagnosed with a relapse of lymphoma again. Since then, as he was put on a immunotherapy clinical trial, there has been several hospitalisations, many medical procedures etc. I wasn’t able to visit your parents. I will be in touch soon. Our association with Ian and Ann began in December 2004 when we moved to Maleny. We were warmly welcomed by Ian and Ann at the Maleny Uniting Church and soon found we shared many interests and thus our friendship began. Ian and Ann were wonderful hosts and over the years we enjoyed their hospitality on many occasions. Ian and John shared the same birthday date and celebrating together became a tradition. Ian had an unique sense of humour - sometimes intellectually challenging and sometimes dry – in his company jokes would bounce back and forth and these were enjoyable times. Ian was never short of stories to tell and they were always interesting. We were treated to many Austin 7 stories – (i.e. buying it to transport girlfriends around Melbourne!) - motor scooter stories (including the fact that Ann had to alight from the scooter and walk up any steep hill because the scooter “ran out of puff”) - sailing stories and enthusiasm for various sporting events were often exchanged. Music was a shared interest – we enjoyed many Oriana Choir events and were inspired by the stories of Ian’s Dads musical career – (Ian gave us copies of two of his Dad’s piano compositions). Ian, thank you for enriching our lives, readily sharing your Faith and leaving us with many happy memories. We will especially remember you on Dec. 30th.

With love from Elspeth Slater (a retired SIM misso – she represented SIM Victoria at my first commissioning in Hamilton 1989.) Read full message here.

Hi Jennie, Little note to send you my condolences on losing your father. Hallelujah he is now with Jesus, but it is still always hard to lose a parent, I’m sure. Jim has lost both his parents. Mine are 91 and 94. So glad you could have time with him in recent months. Our love to you both. Kathy & Jim Carlson (fellow missionaries in France from US) Read full message here.

Dear Jennie, My love to you at this time of your Dad's passing. It is good he's now at peace in his eternal home after the challenges of recent times. So glad that you were able to spend that time with him a few months ago. I guess it will feel like a big hole in your family. May your memories be of the richness of his life, his love for you all, and the peace that you will see him once again. Love and blessings as you miss him, grieve his passing, and rejoice his name is in the Lamb's book of life and you'll see him again one day. Thinking of you all with love. Dear Jennie. Thank you for informing us of your father’s passing. Reading your email it is obvious that your dad was very well cared for in his last days on earth, which is a real blessing. Praise God for modern technology so that you could be in touch as well in the final days. We rejoice with you that he had lived a long and fruitful life, and that he is now home with the Lord, which is far better. May the Lord sustain, support and encourage your Mum as she adjusts over time to life without your Dad. Love Marinda de Villiers (Melbourne – prayer supporter) Read full message here.

So sorry to hear of your father’s death. You must be so happy that you were able to be with him so recently. I will pass this on to anyone I think might like to know. With warm wishes Julie Schroeder (Personnel, PLC Development office for years.) Read full message here.

We are especially thinking of you Jennie, as you grieve the loss of your Dad from so far away, John and I send our Love and Blessings to you and your family, Mavis Benn Read full message here.

Dear Jennie We were so sorry to hear of your dad passing...in your lovely, long update of 14th October you wrote, referring to your recent trip here, 'I thought I would be attending Dad's funeral'...and now he is gone...We shall join you online to say goodbye to this fine man, whom we only know via you, his daughter...but that says a lot! It's good for you to know that your family is here nearby to support your mother at this sad time... Hope your time in Paris went smoothly. Thanks for the kids' news... Dearest Jennie and family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad on Tuesday morning. Sorry you couldn’t be here to be with the family at this time but praise God for modern technology so you could ‘be as close as possible, albeit from the other side of the world’. I’m sure that despite your heavy hearts, there is great rejoicing in heaven. Uplifting you and all the family up before His Mighty Throne of Grace at this time. May you all know His peace and comfort at this time. Blessings and love, Dorinda xx (Edwards – ex-SIM missionary) Read full message here.

With much love. Sim & Seng Fan Read full message here.

En Christ, fraternellement, Guy Delarbre (member Bergerac Church and former pastor) Read full message here.

I also received the same number of messages via SMS and WhatsApp. I didn't record those, only the emails I received. We were surrounded by a cloud of affection and support during those weeks in November and December. Read full message here.

30th. Read full message here.

Fiona also received call from Phil Gruchy where he expressed his condolences and appreciation of Dad and the time they spent together over the years. Read full message here.

I am very sorry to hear that Fiona. Thank you for letting me know. Please pass my condolences onto your mum. Ian was a lovely man and from what I can tell lived a very full life. I will always have a reminder of him on my desk at work! I am on leave next week but will do my best to tune in if possible on Wednesday morning. I hope you and your family are coping as best as you can at this very sad time. Read full message here.

Hank you so much for letting me know. My heart goes out to you and all the family over this difficult time. I so valued the time I spent with your Dad, he was a truly remarkable man who battled on through all his medical issues. But what I will fondly remember most is his sense of humour. Please give Ann a big cuddle from me. Love to you and everyone. Read full message here.

Dear Fiona I am so so sad to hear of your wonderful clever, witty dad’s passing. I remember him fondly and his gift to me of travel brochures from trips to Norway in the 60’s.
