When we first met we became immediate friends and stayed dear friends for the many years. We drifted apart when I was no longer able to travel, due to duties to my parents. Sharon taught me the fun of travelling and inspired a sense of adventure and independence. We shared a lot of laughs, she had a wonderful warm sense of humour. We were scrabble buddies, also sharing a love of books and a good yarn. She had a hard won earthy wisdom that she imparted generously. We were soul sisters and I often thought of her despite our distance in the last couple of years. I wanted her to live out her old age with me, two old ducks together, but she preferred to stay in Melbourne near her kids. We spoke about our children a lot together and swapped funny stories and advice and worries; as you do, as mothers. I've missed her and our jaunts around Australia. One Winter in Melbourne, we were so fed up with the cold Sharon suggested we head north to warmer climes. We drove to Orange! It had snowed there the night before we arrived - lol! And we ended up in the most dreadful dive that first night, late, hungry, a bit freaked out. The next day we trawled the real estate agents for a place that had to be available that day and spent the most wonderful week together. We had many more like that - often involving disaster of some sort that would quickly become a funny story to us. Like getting stuck in Rockhampton with the floods. We got a bit cabin crazy that time - but never overly so as we always kept ourselves amused - we enjoyed each others company so much. There was always scrabble! Love to you all - Jessie, Kim and Lachie - and may her warmth, kindness, sense of fun live on in and through you. xxx
