I met Virgil in Hancock, Michigan, when I was there visiting my Uncle Aubrey Gibson, who was Virgil's colleague and friend from "Da Tech," and I have pleasant memories of Virgil and Margaret's hospitality and humor. May Virgil's memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

I have many wonderful memories of our times together with Virgil and Margaret in Houghton, Hancock and Melbourne. I will always remember the long multi-course dinners followed by long conversations and a competitive game of dominoes (Mexican train, Australian rules not American rules) during the dessert course. Because the games and conversation went on well into the night, we often had two desserts! They were warm gracious hosts (and guests) and Margaret is a excellent cook so we had a lot of fun together. I am glad Madhu and I were able to see them both in Jan and Feb 2023. With much love and hugs, Pushpa

I was lucky enough to have Virgil as a MS thesis advisor in 70s and later as a colleague from 1980 to his retirement. We were also friends making many canoe trips to Quetico Provincial Park in Canada and one ski trip to Utah. Spending time with Virgil was always joyus and inspirational. He always had a thoughtful, positive, accepting, and happy presence. I will always remember and appreciate our time together. I'm so sorry for your loss.
