Bill and Jean were good friend of the family when I was growing up, and it was always a big and happy day when we went to their house in Canterbury for a meal, which always included their roast potatoes which I absolutely loved. Some of my happiest memories were of spending an afternoon at their house, listening to them chat and laugh and generally feel calm and happy in their company. Bill even stayed calm and chilled out when I asked if I could play my new Metallica CD in his sound room on his brand new state of the art CD player, and he was quite happy to show me how to use it even though he must have hated the music, being a long way from his beloved jazz! Thanks to Bill and Jean for the happy times, and the fond memories. It is sad you are now both gone, but I'm glad you are back together with each other again.

Bill & Jean were lovely people.
We often listened to the Jazz music streaming from Bill's studio room.
He was a kind man and Gene was a kind and thoughtful person, bringing gifts at the birth of our children.
I had many fond fence side chats....about Celtic V Rangers...you will be remembered and missed Bill 😇

A man of enormous Jazz knowledge, Bill was a wonderful colleague with a quick wit who enjoyed sharing his wide and rich interest in all things Jazz. He was a dependable contributor to the AJazz magazine and his efforts will be sadly missed in the sound room. Bill enjoyed robust interactions and provided lots of amusement to us all. A sad day for all those who knew Bill as a friend and colleague.

Christina Bell, of the Bell Jazz Family and Bill Ford, a past President of the Victorian Jazz Archive, note with sadness the passing of Bill Brown, their respected friend and long-time active worker at the Australian Jazz Museum (formerly the Victorian Jazz Archive). His wealth of written anecdotes and hard work in preserving jazz recordings will be valued and preserved by the AJM., but his whimsical and vast knowledge of the historical Australian and UK jazz scenes may never again be matched .

My jazz friend and fellow collector Bill has gone. In the years from 2008 till today he was an invaluable source of knowledge of Australian and British jazz. Bill was able to teach me a lot of things I didn't know before. His letters and emails from Melbourne were always eagerly awaited. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
